The Photographers

Lexi started Service Snapshots to turn her passion for photography into something bigger. After three years in Photography 1, 2, and AP, she is stepping into the role of Co-Photo Editor for the school yearbook. Lexi can't wait to further her photography experience this year!

"I’ve always been intrigued about photography, but it wasn’t until I started taking photography at school that I began to see it as more than just a hobby. Through Photography 1, 2, and AP Photography, I learned how to work with light, frame a picture, and use my camera as a tool for storytelling. I found that a single image could capture emotion, personality, and narrative in ways words sometimes can’t.

While working as a Program Intern at Sister League of San Diego (SLSD), a nonprofit that provides supportive housing for women facing mental illness, domestic violence, and homelessness, I noticed something big. SLSD rarely had high-quality photos of their houses, events, staff, or residents. Without strong visuals, their fundraising and outreach efforts were limited, and the personal stories of the women they served weren’t being shared.

So, I brought my camera to work. I started photographing events, staff, and even their Christmas card. Every time my photos were shared, I knew I was helping. I knew I was simply showing moments that might otherwise go unseen. I began to see how photography could be more than just art.

That’s when I started Service Snapshots, a student-led nonprofit offering free photography to San Diego nonprofits. What began as a few cold emails grew into countywide partnerships. I teamed up with classmates from AP Photography, and together we’ve photographed food drives, animal rescues, galas, and more.  I love getting to learn about each nonprofit’s mission, meet new people, and help them share their work with the community through greater publicity.

For me, Service Snapshots is proof of how powerful a photograph can be.
